Team Birmingham Elite are currently in a thriving relationship with Birmingham City University. TBE are delivering all basketball activities with the view of working to support the University in delivering an outstanding basketball provision when we move into the Commonwealth Basketball Arena from September 2022.
Since the partnership between TBE and BCU has been in place, we have increased basketball participation in Men’s Basketball by 100% after introducing a Men’s second team and development squad. Our female teams have seen an increase in members by 40%. These are impressive gains during the start of the partnership between TBE and BCU.
The impressive increase in participation and elite level coaching has had a direct impact on the success of the program. The Men’s 1st team completed an undefeated season 2019-2020 gaining promotion to BUCS league 2. This team also got to the semi-finals of the Midlands Cup coming up short by just two points.
This was an incredibly successful season for BCU basketball and has led to Basketball becoming a focus sport for Birmingham City University.
TBE and BCU’s partnership has created mentoring opportunities for our student athletes as they have gained knowledge in a wide range of basketball areas such as S&C, mental health and the sports agents industry. This is alongside regular opportunities to support and develop as coaches, officials and organisers of events.
The collaboration between Team Birmingham Elite and Birmingham City University is creating a well-developed and supportive pathway for students to excel within Basketball alongside academic studies.
This is evident with all basketball student athlete graduates gaining full-time employment within their areas of studies.
